East Africa Drought 2011
Years of drought in East Africa has negatively impacted the lives of millions of people throughout several countries including Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Djibouti. Currently, tens of thousands of people from Somalia are traveling on foot to camps in neighboring Kenya and Ethiopia escaping political conflict and in search of food in hopes that someone will help them save the lives of their starving children.
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “The similitude of believers in regard to mutual love, affection, and fellow-feeling is that of one body; when any limb of it aches, the whole body aches, because of sleeplessness and fever.” (Sahih Muslim, Book 32, Hadith 6528)
Kenya has the biggest and most populated refugee camps in the world which are becoming even more burdened by the influx of Somali refugees. Hidaya is currently collecting Zakat and Sadaqah and will be sending our team to Kenya, insha’Allah, to meet the needs of refugees living in camps.
