In Asia, it has executed its programs in Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, China, Myanmar, Turkey, and Syria. In Africa, Hidaya has worked in Cameroon, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Niger, Nigeria, Mali, Ghana, Togo, Senegal, Benin, Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Sudan. In North America, Hidaya is active in the USA.
Solicitation of Funds
Funds are received through mass mailing campaigns, magazine, newspaper and television advertisements, social networking, and mass emails. The majority of Hidaya’s donations come from individual donors. A good number of Hidaya’s donors work in the high-tech industries, and most of the companies they work for match employee donations. Hidaya receives an appreciable amount of gift-matching donations from companies such as Microsoft, Nvidia, Google, Apple, Ebay, Cisco, Pepsi-Cola, and many more.
Anti-Terrorism Measures
Hidaya Foundation executes projects preferably by using its own volunteers and employees, as much as possible. If a need arises to work with a partner organization, Hidaya Foundation qualifies such organizations by checking the names of its board of directors against the terrorist organization lists issued by United Nations, US Department of Treasury and European Union, and then by looking over their financials and track records.
In addition, all Hidaya Foundation employees, project volunteers and partner organizations are required to carefully read the Anti-Terrorist Financing Guidelines: Voluntary Best Practices for U.S.-Based Charities by the US Department of Treasury and attest to executing the projects according to these guidelines as well as the laws of the country in which projects will be executed.
Standard Operating Procedures
All Hidaya Foundation projects follow standard operating procedures which are revised from time to time to keep up with change. These standard operating procedures encompass entire sets of processes such as accounting, project initiation, completion and reporting. All employees, volunteers and partner organizations are strictly required to follow these procedures.
Project Lifecycle
Hidaya executes its projects, either through employees, volunteers or partner organizations to safeguard Hidaya’s interests. Project funding is not released until a project proposal is submitted and approved by Hidaya Foundation’s management, and an agreement is signed. The agreement clearly states the purpose of the project and expected results, and requires submission of a project completion report, photographs, and receipts upon completion.
In the case of a long-term on-going project, interim reports are submitted at regular intervals in order to monitor ongoing performance and to decide on further funding.
Qualifying Beneficiaries
Hidaya stipulates to partner organizations and volunteers exclusively on who can receive support for the designated project at hand.
Partner organizations and volunteers are required to undergo an investigation process in which they fill applications to qualify individuals for support. This may include visiting the applicants’ localities, enquiring about them from neighbors and local shop keepers etc.
Forms of Support
Hidaya helps beneficiaries in a variety of ways in the form of direct financial assistance, food (cooked, dry ration, meat), drinking water (including water hand pumps and delivery by water tanker), agriculture (such as trees, seeds, livestock, poultry), clothing, educational support, and medical assistance.
Hidaya also sends containers which consist of a variety of goods including computers, medical equipment, medical supplies, toys, books, clothes, pots and pans, etc. All the household items are distributed among the deserving in economically depressed areas. Computers and books are distributed at schools. Medical supplies and equipment are given to hospitals which serve the poor.
